**The Connecticut Association of Alternative Schools and Programs presents a celebration of excellence in alternative schools and programs from throughout the state. Please come and celebrate the accomplishments of your students throughout the year. All students participating will receive a certificate as well as feedback on their presentation or display.
Team events will be scheduled at the March 10th meeting at Southington ALTA. Events will include:
1. Community Service: Past presentations have included work with Smile Train, Relief Fund raising; Young Parents support group, and Beautification Projects.
2. Audio, Video, or Live Performance: a short commercial about your school or program explaining why students would find success in alternative education.
3. Lifesmarts: Teams from different schools or programs will compete by answering questions presented by a moderator about knowledge in the real world.
4. Advertising: Teams will present an investigation of a product, event or place through market research and use fundamentals of informed decision-making and business management practices. Many groups choose to advertise openings in their programs.
5. Annual Program of Activities: This event provides an opportunity for teams to develop a program of work for the year, and then plan, organize, implement, and evaluate program activities throughout the school year. Some teams have developed a speaker’s board for the next year along with evaluation feedback for each speaker.
Individual events will be scheduled the day of the celebration. Students will sign for times that do not interfere with team events. These events are:
6. Public Speaking: students will prepare a 3 to 5 minute speech about their experience in alternative education or some other significant issue to be presented to a judge or audience (student’s choice).
There must be time for questions at the end of the speech.
7. Career Portfolio: Students will prepare a portfolio with resume, cover letter, reference list, letters of recommendation and any other information for job readiness. This will be presented to a judge for evaluation and recognition.
Demonstration events allow students from all programs to highlight projects, artistic performances and art displays from the entire year. Please let us know at the time of registration of any special needs for your demonstration or display.
