STARS*

Success, Teamwork, Achievement, Recognition, Self-esteem

Due to innovations this year, there has been a delay in starting the STARS program.  The Third meeting will be February 9, 2010 at ALTA in Southington from 9:30 am to 11:30 pm with a light breakfast of bagels and juice.   STARS  are the 2 to 4 students you choose to hone their leadership skills by doing team and leadership skills building with other students from other alternative schools.  Only CAASP member ( you can still become a member) schools can send STARS to these 2 or three meetings before the larger conference in March. These STARS students will join together to work on developing the new plan for this year- a conference March  26, 2010 at Briarwood College. The restructured conference this year will not be for all students in alternative schools but rather for those who  will present according to the following over view (but not necessarily a CAASP member  school):

CAASP STARS: A  Conference created in such a way that the emphasis would be on student leaders meeting to develop action plans and formal presentations/demonstrations, or to engage in performance-based activities for other alternative students from the state (these  students do not need to be from schools that are CAASP members). The focal point would be the organization of a legislative day at the state capital building.   Leadership activities might be more in line with the student government model adopted by MAAP STARS in Minnesota( see website - http://www.maapmn.org/images/STARSp1.pdf   ).   A planning committee of 20-30 (STARS) students would meet monthly to establish the agenda for the March conference and the students who would be attending the conference will be sharing audio/video presentations, skits or demonstrations,  participating in public speaking, and sharing community service projects and career portfolios.

PLEASE let us know how many leadership quality students you  would like to send for the STARS  right a way so we can plan foods and space. For more information please see the website, www.caasp.org or email any of the board members. The directions  for ALTA are on the website or you can mapquest it .
